Health officials in Anchorage are investigating a confirmed case of measles in the municipality.
The individual recently arrived in Anchorage from a part of the U.S. experiencing a substantial measles outbreak and did not have a history of MMR vaccination. Authorities say public exposure is limited because the person was isolated upon arrival.
The infected individual was at several public locations before being diagnosed, including:
- Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport on October 13 from 4 to 8 p.m.
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on October 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on October 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.
Anyone who was at these locations during those times could have been exposed. Symptoms of measles usually appear 7 to 21 days after exposure and include high fever, rash, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Serious complications, including pneumonia, are possible…
