PepperTree Apartments resident arrested on drunk driving charge

A resident of PepperTree Apartments was arrested for DUI after a deputy found marijuana and 11 empty alcoholic drinks in his vehicle.

A deputy observed 50-year-old Hugo Edward Borja driving a white Ford Explorer westbound on State Road 44 around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle’s tag light was not working, which made the tag hard to read. The deputy also saw the vehicle change lines from right to left over a solid white intersection line. It then went from left to right just before exiting the intersection with I-75, the report said.

Seeing this, the deputy stopped the vehicle at the fuel pumps of the TA Travel Center, located at 556 E SR 44, Wildwood. He spoke to Borja who smelled strongly of alcohol. He also had glossy eyes and was sweating a lot. When asked for his license, he aimlessly stumbled through his wallet before just giving his name and date of birth, the report said…
