St. Landry Parish clerk of court hosts family gathering in honor of Pope Leo XIV

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A celebration of the Louisiana roots of the newest pope will take place Oct. 25.

St Landry Parish Clerk of Court Charles Jagneaux will be hosting the Lemelle Heritage Celebration in Honor of Pope Leo XIV and his family connections to St. Landry Parish.

Robert Francis Prevost was elected to the papacy on May 8, becoming the first American pope in history. He is also Creole with a heritage spanning from St. Landry Parish to New Orleans.
