Tragedy Strikes Bladensburg Birthday Party: One Dead, Multiple Injured in Fatal Hit-and-Run
Bladensburg, MD – A joyous child’s birthday celebration in Bladensburg turned into a scene of unspeakable tragedy Saturday night when a driver allegedly plowed into a gathering, killing one woman and injuring 13 others. The incident, now being investigated as a fatal hit-and-run, has left the community reeling.
Authorities confirm that partygoers were gathered under a yard tent in Bladensburg, approximately six miles from Washington, D.C., when a vehicle reportedly crashed into the group around 10 p.m.
The deceased victim has been identified as Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez, 31, a resident of Washington, D.C. In addition to Ms. Gutierrez’s death, eight minors and five adults sustained injuries in the devastating incident.
The Bladensburg Police Department released a statement Sunday, providing an update on the condition of the injured: “Six of the juvenile victims have been treated and released and one has been admitted and is in stable condition.” Regarding the adult victims, the statement continued, “Three adult victims have been admitted to the hospital and are in stable condition, one is pending treatment, and one has been released.”
The driver, identified as a 66-year-old man, later turned himself in to authorities. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event is ongoing.
