A pedestrian was fatally struck by a SMART train in Petaluma yesterday. The Petaluma Police Department reported that the SMART Train Dispatch Center notified them about the tragic event, which took place near the railroad trestle bridge that spans over the tributary of the Petaluma River.
Emergency personnel from the Petaluma Police Department and the Petaluma Fire Department arrived at the scene to find the pedestrian on the north side of the tracks. The train involved in the incident was stopped roughly 200 yards west of the bridge. Despite attempts by the fire department to save the pedestrian’s life, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released to the public.
The SMART Train conductor remained on site and cooperated with investigators. The train had passengers on board during the accident, but there were no additional reports of injuries.
