Chattanooga to hold retirement ceremony for longtime community center manager

Chattanooga, TN – The City of Chattanooga Department of Community Development invited the public and Lookout Valley community to celebrate the career of Jimmy C. Long, longtime Manager of the John A. Patten Community Center, at his Retirement Ceremony and Open Hours Reception on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the John A. Patten Community Center, 3202 Kellys Ferry Road, Chattanooga. City, county, and state representatives will share remarks recognizing Jim’s more than 45 years of service, leadership, and dedication to Lookout Valley residents. An Open Hours Reception will follow from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., allowing the community to personally thank Jim and center staff.

Jim Long’s connection to the center began in the 1970s, when the building transitioned from a school to a community center. Over the decades, he has helped the facility grow into a cornerstone of community life, offering programs such as pickleball, quilting, arts and crafts, and summer camps for local youth…
