The N.C. Department of Transportation has announced that sections of Benson Road (N.C. 50) and U.S. 70 will be temporarily closed overnight from today through Saturday. The closures are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. each night and end at 6 a.m. the following morning, weather permitting. The temporary shutdowns will allow contractors to safely install bridge girders for a new overpass, according to the NCDOT.
Alternate routes will be in place during the closures. Eastbound U.S. 70 traffic will use a ramp to continue traveling. Westbound traffic will be redirected along New Rand Road, Garner Road, and Vandora Springs Road to return to U.S. 70 West.
Northbound traffic on Benson Road will be redirected to U.S. 70 and New Rand Road. Southbound drivers will use Garner Road and Vandora Springs Road as an alternate route to access U.S. 70 East. These changes are in place to maintain safety during ongoing bridge construction…
