Fall teases us, then steps aside for more warmth this week

Need to Know

  • A cool start this morning, but we warm quickly this afternoon
  • Highs near 90 today and Tuesday before dipping slightly midweek
  • Isolated showers or storms possible Tuesday
  • Better rain chances may return by Friday or Saturday

Where Did Fall Go? When you step outside this morning, you will felt it: a brief touch of fall air we’ve all been waiting for. Many spots dipped into the upper 50s and low 60s before sunrise. But, don’t get too comfortable. That cool air is moving out fast. Warm, southerly winds will take over by afternoon, sending highs right back to around 90 degrees.

Any Rain on the Way?Maybe a little. A weak front will move in Tuesday and could trigger a few isolated to widely scattered showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon, mainly north of Houston. Most of us will stay dry, but a lucky few will get a quick downpour. Behind the front, Wednesday looks slightly cooler, with highs in the low 80s and more comfortable mornings in the 50s and 60s.

What About the End of the Week? The Gulf humidity returns by Thursday, along with warmer temperatures. Models are hinting that another system could move across Texas late in the week, which might finally bring a better shot at rain Friday or Saturday. Nothing guaranteed yet, but fingers crossed because the ground could definitely use it.

Bottom LineCool mornings won’t last long as warm afternoons will dominate most of the week. A few showers are possible Tuesday, and maybe more widespread rain late in the week if the setup holds…
