LINN COUNTY, Ore. – A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist and seriously injured his passenger on Friday afternoon after a vehicle turned out in front of him on Highway 20, according to the Oregon State Police.
OSP officials said they responded at 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 17 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near milepost 23. A motorcyclist, identified as 46-year-old Jeremy Wayne Smith of Lebanon, was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 on a Harley Davidson Road King when the driver of a Subaru Outback turned from Liberty Road onto the highway to travel westbound, state police said. Authorities said Smith crashed into the side of the Subaru and was declared deceased at the scene. A passenger on the motorcycle, identified as a 45-year-old Lebanon woman, and the Subaru’s driver, a 19-year-old Colorado woman, were transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said. The highway was affected for about five hours during the on-scene investigation.
