City Sues Homeland Security Over New Anti-‘Woke’ Rules For $10 Million In Emergency Funding

CHICAGO — The showdown between city and federal leaders continues to force its way in front of judges as Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration joined another lawsuit Monday challenging requirements for emergency prevention funding.

The lawsuit stems from new conditions for “Emergency Management Performance” grants from the Department of Homeland Security requiring that recipients commit to not spending the money on “any programs that advance or promote DEI [Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion].”

That could leave the city — which has drawn a hard line on federal threats to diversity programs — out of $10 million next year, mayoral spokesman Cassio Mendoza said…
