Lawsuit halts New Mexico United stadium construction

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico United has a playoff spot, fan support – and plans for a new stadium they still can’t get their shovels in the ground for yet.

An ongoing lawsuit is preventing construction on the new United stadium at Balloon Fiesta Park. Neighborhood associations around the site have fought the plan, raising concerns about traffic, light pollution and what they describe as “unwanted congestion” close to where they live.

“We are willing to continue to fight this as long as it needs to be fought in order to protect our land, our environment and taxpayer funds,” one person said…
