NYS prison system won’t rehire two former officers acquitted of inmate’s murder

ALBANY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The state prison system won’t consider rehiring two former officers, despite them being acquitted on criminal charges related to the incident that triggered their resignations.

A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision told NewsChannel 9: “…due to their egregious actions, sitting idly by and watching the horrific murder of Robert Brooks, there is no place for them with DOCCS and we will not be rehiring them or reinstating them.”

A Oneida County jury found Nicholas Kieffer and Mathew Galliher not guilty on all the charges against them. Both were charged with murder, manslaughter, and gang assault. Kieffer also faced a charge related to lying on required paperwork…
