Case dismissed against Downriver man in shooting at Detroit Ford Fireworks

A 19-year-old Downriver man charged with firing shots into a crowd at the 2025 Detroit fireworks will not stand trial.

Alphonso Cooper Jr. of Romulus, was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, three counts of carrying a concealed weapon, and four counts of felony firearm in the non-fatal shootings of a 17-year-old Van Buren Township male, and a 22-year-old Ferndale woman.
