‘Golden Spike’ of Pufferbelly Trail almost completed

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)— The City of Fort Wayne described a crucial portion of the Pufferbelly Trail that has been under construction for more than a year as 90% complete on Monday.

According to Dawn Ritchie, the city’s greenways and trails manager, while the newly constructed stretch of trail between Washington Center Rd. and Coliseum Blvd. may look complete, work is ongoing. Contractors still need to put striping on the trail, add more signage, and complete grading and seeding the ground. The contractor the city hired has until mid-December to complete the job, according to Ritchie.

“I do want to remind everybody,” Ritchie said. “Even though everybody’s really excited to see this trail, it’s a construction zone. So, we need to stay out of the way of the contractor. There’s also safety issues. There’s areas where we haven’t put up hand railing yet.”…
