As the city marks one year since the implementation of the Camping Ordinance, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports changes in the urban landscape. According to a social media post from the office, downtown crime has decreased by 14%, and crimes against people have dropped by 22%. The ordinance, which prohibits camping in certain city areas, has resulted in more than 400 arrests.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that in partnership with the Homeward Bound program, they have reunited over 550 homeless individuals with family members. This initiative is funded through seized criminal assets.
