Despite burn ban, Diwali fireworks set to light up the sky in Fort Bend County

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — Diwali, known as the “Festival of Lights,” is being celebrated in South Asian communities across Houston and around the world. A major fireworks display at a Hindu temple in Fort Bend County will continue as planned Monday night, despite a burn ban.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Stafford will host the large fireworks show at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Each colorful burst of light represents a core meaning of Diwali for many Hindus.

“What it also signifies is good over evil, light over darkness,” BAPS volunteer Viral Desai said. “Fireworks are very important during Diwali.”…
