Oswego Police Negotiate Surrender Of Armed, Suicidal Veteran

Oswego police took an armed suicidal subject into custody without incident near the Sam’s Club Distribution Center in Oswego early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 1:08am Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a suicidal male who had left his residence on foot with a handgun in the 300 block of Kensington Drive. The caller reported the subject was a veteran and may be aggressive toward responding officers. Officers from Oswego Police, with assistance from multiple surrounding jurisdictions, immediately established a perimeter and began a coordinated search of the area. A drone was deployed to assist in locating the subject, who was found near the Sam’s Club Distribution Center.

Crisis negotiators and tactical personnel were called to the scene and established communication with the subject. After several hours of negotiation, the subject surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. As a precaution, nearby residents were notified and advised to move to their basements or away from exterior walls until the situation was resolved…
