Two more suspects arrested in attack on DOGE staffer in DC, USAO announces

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — On Monday, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the arrest of two more individuals in a high-profile case where a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee was assaulted in an attempted carjacking.

During a news conference, Pirro said that officials took 18-year-old Anthony Taylor of Temple Hills, Md., and 19-year-old Laurence Cotton Powell of D.C. into custody, charging both of them with attempted unarmed carjacking, two counts of robbery and two counts of assault with intent to commit robbery.

Pirro said that the pair was first involved in an assault that took place outside of a gas station in the U Street corridor. They were part of a large group of teenagers who walked up to a man and his friends at the Sunoco in the 1400 block of U St. just before 2:55 a.m.

The group started to assault the man and his friends. Pirro said that at one point, the man managed to get up and tried to get away, but the group took him down again, eventually stealing his watch and one of his shoes before escaping…
