‘I tried not to cry’: Evacuee parents watch students head off to Anchorage schools for the first time this week

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Anchorage School District welcomed over 100 displaced students into classrooms this week after they had been evacuated from their villages in the aftermath of the destructive storm that hit Western Alaska last week.

While the process went smoothly, some parents said they had a hard time watching their children transition to large schools.

“I’m just a little worried about a big change,” Dustin Evon, one father said, “There’s a big difference between village and city.”…
