The Water Resources Department in Asheville, North Carolina, will resume water service disconnections for customers with overdue bills starting Monday, November 10, 2025. The department paused billing and disconnections for a year after Hurricane Helene disrupted water service. Regular billing and collection procedures are returning as water service is restored and the water meter replacement project nears completion.
Customers with unpaid balances will receive two notifications: an automated phone call and a letter sent to their address. Accounts with the oldest overdue bills will be disconnected first. Customers must pay their balance in full or set up an approved payment plan within 15 days of receiving the letter to avoid disconnection.
Payment plans are available. Customers who owe $500 or less can choose a three-month plan. Those with higher balances may qualify for a six-month plan. All plans require monthly payments and on-time payment of new bills. If customers do not follow the plan, their service will be disconnected…
