CSU Expands Direct Admissions Program to All of California

Following the success of its Direct Admissions Pilot Program at Riverside County schools this year, the California State University (CSU) system has announced it is expanding the program statewide, with six additional universities participating. The expansion was made possible by SB 640, which was signed into law by the Governor this month.

The expanded program will begin January 1, 2026, and will apply to applicants for fall 2027. Districts across the state will enter data for high-school students into a platform called CaliforniaColleges.edu. Those who meet the requirements will be automatically accepted to 16 CSU schools before they even apply. Once notified, they can submit formal applications to the schools of their choice, knowing their acceptance has been pre-determined.

“We’ve seen that be kind of a transformational process through this Riverside County pilot,” April Grommo, assistant vice chancellor for the system’s strategic enrollment management, told SFGATE. “So we’re excited to be able to move this statewide and really provide clear and supportive paths for students to be able to earn their CSU degree.”…
