Federal shutdown could stall food benefits for 40,000 in Weld County

As many as 40,000 Weld County residents will not receive assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) starting Nov. 1 because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

“I’ve been in numerous meetings and on many calls with local and state agencies as we stay updated on the situation and the effects a continued shutdown will have here in Colorado,” said Weld County Human Services Director Jamie Ulrich.
