Chattanooga is renowned for being an outdoor city, but most newcomers aren’t fully aware of how close our natural areas are to downtown. You don’t have to drive out to Lookout Mountain or Soddy Daisy to find good hiking. We have several pockets of natural land, inside city limits that have been preserved for the public to enjoy.
Stringer’s Ridge is nestled between North Chattanooga and the City of Red Bank; it contains 7 miles of trails within 92 acres of woods. Recently, the White Oak Connector Trail was added to create a path between Red Bank’s largest park and Stringer’s Ridge. If I only had an hour to take someone on a hike, this is where I would take them.
If you’re looking to check out this trail, car parking can be found in White Oak Park, in any of the three lots on site. Follow the Ronnie Moore Memorial Parkway eastward, back out of the park, until you reach Midvale Ave, where you’ll find a large metal archway at the trailhead. Congratulations, you’ve found the Connector!…
