East Cleveland mayoral race: Mayor Lateek Shabazz, former Interim Mayor Sandra Morgan poised for November faceoff

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — The question of who will be the undisputed mayor of the city of East Cleveland will finally be answered on Nov. 4.

East Cleveland Mayor Lateek R. Shabazz and Sandra Morgan, who preceded Shabazz in her months-long stint as interim mayor, are squaring off to determine the city’s chief executive for the next four years.

Morgan and Shabazz were the top two finishers in September’s five-candidate mayoral primary, advancing both candidates to the nonpartisan general election. Morgan, who led the city from Feb. 28 to July 17, finished ahead of the field by an overwhelming margin, with 77.93% of the 1,228 votes tabulated. Shabazz followed with 14.82%…
