Revolutionary Roots: The Liberty Point Resolves
Fayetteville’s military heritage begins long before the United States was officially founded. On June 20, 1775, local patriots in Cross Creek signed the Liberty Point Resolves, one of the first public pledges for independence in the American colonies. Fifty-five men vowed their lives and fortunes to the cause of freedom over a year before the Declaration of Independence. Today, a granite monument at the intersection of Bow and Person Streets honors their courage, listing the names of all 55 signers. Many descendants of these men still live in or near Fayetteville, carrying forward their legacy.
