Baldwin County Memorial Ride honors Mobile doctor

SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WKRG) — A cycling group is keeping the memory of a local doctor alive with a yearly ride in his honor.

I followed them as they zipped through Baldwin County, going through small communities that dot areas between Highways 225 and 59. Unlike most of flat south Alabama, this area has curves, hills and valleys.

“So this is a high, high spot. But at the same time, you have tributaries that run towards the river, and they cut canals. And so as you go down to creeks, you have to come back out of them,” said cyclist Sean Donahue.

This is the third annual ride in honor of Dr. Andy Manchikes.

He died in 2021.
