WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington City Council got an update on two multi-million dollar affordable housing projects from the Wilmington Housing Authority on Tuesday night.
Construction on the first phase of a four-phase rebuild at Hillcrest, one of WHA’s oldest properties, is supposed to start in June 2026 and wrap up December 2027.
A major goal of that phase, developers said Tuesday, is to rehouse current residents into the redeveloped community. Currently, less than half of Hillcrest’s existing units are occupied, WHA CEO Tyrone Garrett said. WHA is looking to redevelop the entire site, with plans for mixed-use development…
