Residents from Star to Boise have been reporting rat sightings at a rate of two to five calls per week. The rats, including the brown Norway rat and the Roof rat, are believed to be arriving in shipping containers. Roof rats, known for their climbing abilities, have a white underbelly and large ears.
Adam Schoeder from the Ada County Weed, Pest, and Mosquito Abatement said, “We’re getting a lot of phone calls. We’re getting 2-5 phone calls per week on rats unfortunately I have to tell folks that we’re not allowed to work on them. Those species are not included in our abatement statutes, and so I’ve gained the authorization of our board to at least start talking about this issue with the city councils and other concerned stakeholders.”…
