Mount Baker neighbors hope for solution to block-to-block shuffle of homeless encampments

SEATTLE — As the city of Seattle pledges to increase street outreach efforts, people who live near homeless encampments in the Mount Baker neighborhood hope it will make a difference.

Encampments have been shuffled from block to block around Rainier Avenue South for years. This week, city crews shut down and cleared an encampment on South Bayview Street.

Among the dozen or so people living in the encampment was Larry Hutchison, who spoke with KOMO News about his situation…
