After Years-long Restoration, Leesburg Iconic Restaurant Moves Closer to Reopening

A treasured icon of Leesburg’s dining scene is moving closer to reopening.

The Mighty Midget, a carry-out restaurant that operated for nearly 50 years at the intersection of Market and Loudoun streets, returned home Wednesday following an extensive restoration.

From 1947 to 1994, the tiny restaurant, made from the aluminum skin of World War II aircrafts, served up its famous hamburger sliders along with hot dogs and fries. After it closed, the Town of Leesburg stepped in to preserve the structure. It came out of storage and reopened in 2001 on Harrison Street with the late Brian Devaux serving barbecue. It later operated as Hamburg Döner, serving German food until 2019. The 20-year lease awarded to Gordon MacDowell ended in 2016…
