Man who crashed into school faces federal charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who allegedly crashed his car into a Memphis school and tried to get away from law enforcement is facing federal charges.

Cameron Ross, 35, was charged with evading arrest by vehicle, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, driving without a seat belt, possession of a firearm, felon with a firearm, driving without proof of insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.

According to a THP trooper, he saw Ross driving a gray Cadillac headed south on North Hollywood Street near Staten Avenue without wearing a seatbelt.

The trooper told MPD that Ross began driving recklessly and ran a red light until he eventually lost control of his car at the intersection of Brown Road, crashed into a sign, and then into KIPP Memphis Collegiate High School.

When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Ross accelerated his speed, and a pursuit ensued…
