Hayneville council plans new police department after dissolving force over controversy

Police officers formerly employed with the Town of Hayneville received their final paycheck last week after the council’s July decision to dissolve its municipal law enforcement office. Hayneville’s municipal court went away too as council members held to their July resolution to dismantle the court effective as of Oct. 15.

Hayneville Mayor Jimmie Davis did not respond to requests for comments. However, Councilman Marcus Lewis confirmed the dissolution of both the police department and municipal court.

“No further action was taken, which means it was dissolved effective Oct. 15,” Lewis said. “Nothing else pertaining to [either department] was even on the [Oct. 13 council meeting] agenda. We just let it go out on Oct. 15 as we had already decided.”…
