Laborers Local 42 member struck, killed while assisting with traffic control

St. Louis – Joe Mahoney, a Laborers Local 42 journeyman, was struck Oct. 13 while on the job assisting with traffic control in the Central West End and later died from his injuries.

The accident happened about 6:15 a.m. on North Kingshighway Boulevard at Lindell Boulevard near the Albion apartment project complex, according to St. Louis police. Mahoney, who worked at Concrete Strategies, was attempting to block traffic to move construction equipment when a Chevrolet Malibu hit him. The driver remained at the scene.

“Despite immediate medical attention and extensive care, Joe sustained devastating injuries,” Local 42 shared on social media. “On Oct. 16, he was removed from life support. Although many prayers went unanswered, Joe’s legacy of generosity and kindness continues. As an organ donor, he will give the gift of life to countless others.”…
