The City of Shreveport has completed the first phase of its Block by Block initiative. The program began in 2024 under Mayor Tom Arceneaux. Its goal is to address blight and improve neighborhoods through cleanups and community involvement.
From June to September 2025, city crews, volunteers, and local organizations held eleven clean sweeps. These took place in neighborhoods including Cedar Grove, Queensborough, Mooretown, and Highland. The teams removed 810.9 tons of litter and collected 3,035 discarded tires. The Shreveport Fire Department installed 50 free smoke detectors and inspected hundreds of homes for fire safety.
A total of 312 volunteers registered for the program, with more residents joining during the events. City departments, community leaders, and groups such as Shreveport Green and SPORTRAN worked together on the project…
