After years of planning, construction is officially underway on the long-awaited replacement for the Livingston Avenue Bridge, a key rail link over the Hudson River connecting Albany and Rensselaer.
State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez announced the progress Tuesday, calling the project “fundamentally underway.” Speaking as crews worked behind her, Dominguez said the $635 million bridge replacement remains on schedule for completion in 2028.
The new structure will replace certain parts of the bridge which still sit on pilings dating back to 1860s. The aging bridge currently allows only one train to cross at a time, at speeds of just 15 miles per hour…
