Azlind Davis spent much of her summer vacation undergoing blood transfusions at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
The 13-year-old Union City girl received about 50 pints of blood as she battled a rare, life-threatening disease less than a year after she successfully fought Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“Her body was killing her red blood cells faster than she could make them,” said Pamela Spruiell, Davis’ grandmother. “She was getting a blood transfusion every day for a month, then every other day, then every third day.”…
