A Local Staple Right on 50th Street
If you’ve lived in Lubbock for any amount of time, chances are you’ve either eaten at or driven past Beijing House, tucked away at 3605 50th Street, just off Indiana. It’s one of those spots that’s been quietly serving up hot plates of classic Chinese comfort food for years — the kind of place that doesn’t make a lot of noise, but always seems to have a steady stream of loyal customers. Myself included!

They’re open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and while it’s closed on Sundays, the regulars will tell you it’s worth planning around. With its modest storefront and welcoming staff, Beijing House feels like the kind of family-run spot that Lubbock does best — relaxed, unpretentious, and full of flavor.
Mongolian BBQ, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and More
When it comes to favorites, locals rave about the Mongolian BBQ — a signature feature that lets diners pick their own ingredients and watch them get stir-fried right in front of them. It’s interactive, it’s filling, and it’s one of the few places in town still doing it the old-fashioned way.
Other top picks include Sweet & Sour Chicken, Fried Dumplings, and Wonton Soup. If you’re after something lighter, the menu has plenty of “healthier” options too — everything from stir-fried vegetables to tofu dishes. And like any good neighborhood restaurant, the portions are generous and the prices fair.
Honestly though, just get the Mongolian BBQ. It’s WONDERFUL!
