ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Parents and the teacher’s union are speaking out after multiple fights broke out at East High School. A second employee was hurt during the fights, officials said. The union is calling for increased safety measures for both students and staff.
“If one person fights, then you got friends and then your friends are going to jump in, then you got a melee such as at East High,” Mary Conyer, a grandparent and former parent liaison for the Rochester City School District, said.
Conyer, who worked for the city school district for five years, is an East High School graduate. Her grandchildren attended summer school there. She emphasized the ongoing nature of these issues, saying, “My reaction to the fact that kids are fighting outside of school and inside of school, it’s been happening for over 20 years.
