Amarillo ISD Police Department Chief, officer receive Life-Saving Commendation awards

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees presented the newly appointed district police chief and another officer with Life-Saving Commendation awards after their recent responses to medical emergencies.

According to officials, Amarillo ISD Police Chief Ramey Rice was given the Life-Saving Commendation award after an incident in Dick Bivins Stadium on Sept. 12. A spectator at the stadium went into cardiac arrest, and “with exceptional skills and composure, he performed life-saving measures that successfully resuscitated the individual.”

“Chief Rice’s quick action, professionalism, and commitment to public safety truly exemplify the highest standards of service,” said the Amarillo ISD Board announcement.

As noted in previous reports, Rice became chief on Sept. 29 after the departure of Former Chief Paul Bourquin.

Officer Yadira Arroyo was also presented with a Life-Saving Commendation award after an incident on Aug. 19, when she responded to an emergency involving a choking staff member. With “calm precision, compassion, and skills, she performed life-saving measures that successfully saved the staff member’s life.”…
