UNL to combine journalism, broadcasting, faculty to leave amid budget cuts

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln proposed merging its journalism and broadcasting majors as part of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications’ spending cuts.

Shari Veil, the college’s dean, said the merger of the two programs comes to improve teaching and research metrics alongside increasing enrollment numbers, which the university used to decide which programs to eliminate. The journalism and broadcast programs were ranked among the bottom 25, according to a leaked spreadsheet obtained by The Daily Nebraskan.
