Whether you’re looking to stay close to Springfield or drive an hour or two away, this list is a collection of popular fall hikes in the Ozarks! Let’s take a look.

Springfield Conservation Nature Center

This is a great option for those seeking to stay near Springfield. The trail is maintained by the Missouri Department of Conservation and is in excellent shape. This trail offers a 2-mile loop with cutoff points for those looking for something shorter.

This easy system of trails is covered with water features and has good forest coverage throughout. There are some areas with a slightly steeper grade, but overall the trail is easy. The conservation area itself sits on the north side of Lake Springfield (another good option for those looking to stay in the Springfield area), and the trail follows Galloway Creek for a decent portion of the hike. The combination of water and trees creates great scenery during peak fall foliage!

Valley Water Mill Park

Valley Water Mill Park sits on the north side of Springfield and is a solid 1-mile loop trail. The trail goes around the perimeter of Valley Water Mill Pond. The trail is 2.3 miles long and features a spring, the pond, and an overlook of the pond standing from on top of a bluff above the pond.

The trail can get muddy following a rain, so hikers will need to plan their trips around rain. The trail is natural ground cover and is a mix of rock, dirt, and gravel. The trail also connects to the Greenway trail system below the pond dam. The greenway can be found by going under the road.

Ruth & Paul Henning Conservation Area (Branson)
