Former asst. fire chief charged with arson: ‘Yeah, that was stupid. I know better’

Orange County — A man who served as the Assistant Fire Chief in Pinehurst and as a volunteer firefighter in West Orange has now been removed from those positions following a charge of arson in setting a fire Wednesday afternoon that was witnessed by West Orange Assistant Police Chief Jesse Romero.

Travis James Dupuy, 32, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on the 2nd Degree Felony charge of arson. He’s in the Orange County Jail on $150,000 bond. If convicted, he could face 2-20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood tells KFDM that Dupuy has now been removed from his position as Assistant Fire Chief after he was definitely suspended. We’re told he’s also been removed from his position as a volunteer firefighter in West Orange…
