Nashville, TN – Country music icon Martina McBride recently introduced a new furry family member, a tiny Yorkie puppy named Bear, to her fans. The announcement, made on Friday, October 24th, comes after the passing of her beloved Maltipoo, Mae, in May.
McBride shared a series of adorable photos on Instagram, showcasing Bear settling into his new home. The snapshots reveal a miniature pup who already appears quite comfortable with his surroundings.
“Well, it’s time to introduce you to Bear,” McBride captioned the post. “We have had him since July, and we are all head over heels in love.”
The “Concrete Angel” singer described Bear as “suuuuuper sweet and cuddly,” noting his penchant for staying close to her side. At a mere 2.7 pounds, with an expected adult weight of about 5.5 pounds, Bear is “easy to take everywhere,” she added.
Interestingly, Bear shares a lineage with McBride’s other Yorkie, Finn, as they have the same father. McBride also revealed a poignant detail: Bear was born the morning after Mae passed away.
Fans quickly flooded the comments section with heartwarming messages, expressing their delight over the new addition and the special timing of Bear’s arrival.
Martina McBride Mourns the Loss of Mae
Last month, McBride shared the difficult news of her Maltipoo, Mae’s, passing on May 5th. In an emotional Instagram post, accompanied by several photos, she explained that Mae had been battling heart issues and experiencing breathing difficulties.
“It’s taken me a while to write this, but we lost our sweet Mae on May 5th,” McBride wrote. “She had heart issues and was having trouble breathing, so John and I took her to the vet around 3:00 am.” Despite the veterinary team’s efforts, Mae passed away the following morning.
McBride reflected on the difficult decision of leaving Mae at the vet, acknowledging the mixed emotions that come with such a loss. “It wasn’t necessarily unexpected…she hadn’t seemed great for weeks and she was on a lot of medication….but still you’re never ready,” she shared.
“She was one of a kind. Sassy and sweet…she was so loved.
And she gave us so much in return. We love you, Mae.”
