Second man charged with kidnapping DePaul student, holding him for ransom on the Red Line

A 20-year-old man is the latest to be charged in a harrowing Red Line kidnapping and robbery that prosecutors say turned an ordinary train ride for a DePaul University student into a crosstown nightmare of death threats and extortion.

Keyonte Love was charged this week with aggravated kidnapping for ransom and aggravated robbery, accused of teaming up with 18-year-old Ricky Willis to abduct the 18-year-old DePaul freshman on a southbound Red Line train last month.

Prosecutors said the attack began around 2 a.m. on September 6, when Love and Willis boarded the train at the Argyle stop. Minutes later, the DePaul student stepped aboard at Fullerton, adjacent to the school’s Lincoln Park campus.
