Lafayette house fire caused by cooking accident

UPDATE, 10/24/25, 5:25 p.m.: The house fire in the 800 block of Alice Drive that occurred earlier this today began due to a grease fire, firefighters said.

According to officials, fire crews entered the home and discovered the fire in the kitchen. The flames quickly spread to the attic of the residence eventually venting through the roof. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within 20 minutes. The single-family dwelling sustained heavy fire damage.

The home was occupied by 4 individuals when the fire started. Firefighters reported one of the occupants was preparing to fry some fish in the kitchen when the grease ignited. They attempted to extinguish the fire, but it quickly increased in size. The family exited the smoke-filled home and called 911…
