60 Years of Collecting & Selling Antiques: The Last Word

There’s a man in Erie County who has been collecting interesting antique items from auctions and yard sales for 60 years. That’s long before the popular “Picker” shows began appearing on television. At age 83, he is still collecting with the help of his wife. I’ve arrived at their warehouse on Hershey Road in Summit Township.

I’m greeted by Richard Sipple and his wife Barbara. They are the owners of Sipple Antiques. They begin to take me on a tour of this warehouse that filled with items that date back over 100 years. Some even longer. I gaze in wonder at the large collection of clocks. They are everywhere. They are on the walls. They are sitting on tables. Most of these clocks were brought back to life by Richard. He’s currently fixing a grandfather clock that dates back to the early 1800s.

“I can’t see something going to waste,” he says. So I fix it.”…
