Fireworks called off; parade set for Monday

Due to the dry conditions in Decatur, the Callithumpian Fireworks scheduled for Saturday have been canceled.

The announcement, made by the Chamber of Commerce, which oversees Callithumpian events, said it was advised by the fire chief to call off the fireworks. Fire Chief Jeff Sheets told WZBD.com that the ongoing strong winds have blown away much of the little moisture recently received in the city. The windy conditions would also cause problems where the fireworks would be ignited, including spreading embers.
