Nassau County Resident Moves Into New Home Thanks to SHIP Affordable Housing Program

On October 13, 2025, Alice Roberts, a resident of Nassau County, received the keys to her new home through the State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) program. The SHIP program was created by the 1992 William E. Sadowski Affordable Housing Act to provide affordable housing for very-low, low, and moderate-income families in Florida. It follows guidelines set by Florida Statute, Section 420.907, and the county’s Local Housing Assistance Plan.

Before receiving assistance, Ms. Roberts lived in a 1,072 square foot home that was over 70 years old and in poor condition. The house had damaged siding and floors, a failing foundation, outdated electrical systems, and a malfunctioning septic system. A licensed contractor determined that repairs would be too costly, so the decision was made to replace the house.

The new home is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom residence. It includes a utility room, central air and heating, a new septic system, and energy-efficient appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, and water heater. These features improve the home’s functionality and efficiency…
