Boyfriend on rampage allegedly batters and strangles girlfriend for several hours

A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly hitting and strangling his girlfriend over the course of several hours.

An officer responded to a battery involving 36-year-old Sammie Lee Simmons at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. His girlfriend of five months advised that from 8:30 the night before until 3:30 that morning, he hurt her.

When she got home from work the night before, she noticed Simmons was angry. She asked him what was wrong, to which he replied he was tired of her allowing her children to play on the tablet and laptop while also having difficulty with homework. He started cussing and threatening to slap her if she said anything else about the topic of the kids and devices, the report said.

Once dinner was done, he complained about the food and said he was going to go to the corner store to get liquor. He later came back to the house, started drinking and made remarks about his girlfriend. He was so angry that she came up with a plan to take the children to their grandmother’s house for the weekend, the report said…
