Joe Lopez sentenced to 15 years; Lubbock kidnapping charges dropped

LUBBOCK, Texas — Several charges were dismissed for Joe Lopez, 32, after he pleaded guilty on Thursday to Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported Lopez was accused of kidnapping a woman in 2023 at the Carriage House motel. A police report stated Lopez broke into the victim’s room, dragged her to his vehicle and left the scene. The victim was found safe, and Lopez was later arrested in the 400 block of East 50th Street. He was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center and later posted bond.

Then in February of 2024, Lopez landed himself behind bars again for firing a gun at the Executive Inn. Court records stated Lopez led police on a chase and was later captured by officers in the area. Court documents stated the bullets had gone through the wall of a hotel room.

Lopez initially had more than a dozen charges including kidnapping, assault, evading arrest, drug charges and more. He received 545 days of jail credit for time already spent behind bars. Lopez was also sentenced to 66 months in federal prison for a gun charge, which will run consecutively to his state sentence…
